Design Technology: Step 5 Evaluate
Design
This is the second step of the MYP Design Cycle. In this we have to make the design for our product. These are the following steps for Step 2: Design:
1) Mood board: This is when we pick out good pictures of emergency
shelters that already exist and make a board full of them so we can get
ideas from them.
2) Design Ideas: Then we had to put 6 design ideas that we made for
our emergency shelter and point arrows at the different parts to help
identify what each part does.
3) Evaluating against specification: This is the highlight of Design it is
when we use the specification that we used in Step 1: Investigate and
see if it matches the design's needs. For the important points we give
it a 2 and for the less important points we give it a 1. Obviously the
model with the most points is going to be the one that meets the needs
of the specifications more than the others. The one that got the most
points was the 2nd model.
4) Client feedback: This is when we get feedback on our designs from
the client that we interviewed in Step 1: Investigate. The
client also chose the 2nd model as the best one.
5) Final design chosen and why: This is when we decide
what design we chose and why. I chose emergency shelter
number 2 because it was a unique shape and matched
almost all of my specification points.
6) Final Design Idea Develop: This is when we draw a more
detailed version of our emergency shelter. We can also
make changes. I took out the ladder for example.
7)Final Design: This is the final design that you are going to
stick with. I changed some things. For example, I added the
ladder back in to the emergency shelter
When I was doing Design, I didn't have a lot of troubles
because I liked drawing models. This time I learned that I
had to get things checked with Mr. Thorburn to get the
highest mark that I could achieve. The hard part was getting
the measurements to work.
